Deployment Server
We begin with the Deployment server. When you first
receive DAS, you will install it to the Deployment Server. The
installation program does the following:
-
Creates a new "Data Access Studio" directory
in the B7 directory.
-
Copies DAS files to this directory.
-
Creates the table FDASROP in System - B7XXXX
datasource
-
Creates OCM mappings for all environments to point
FDASPROP to System - B7XXXX
Enterprise Server
DAS utilizes the following
EnterpriseOne® information:
-
DAS enforces
EnterpriseOne® column and row security for each signed on user.
-
DAS utilizes
OCM information to determine where to open a table by default.
-
DAS
utilizes Data Dictionary and Table specifications to present and format the
EnterpriseOne® tables. This means that the data is correctly formatted for your
end-users.
Database Server
DAS, of course, enables the user to view the data on your
database server (using the appropriate EnterpriseOne® security provisions.)
DAS enables users to customize the layout and appearance of
all tables and views. DAS, furthermore, enables the user to save each of
these custom reports. DAS maintains the user's reports and customizations
in a central table (FDASPROP) in your System - B7XXX datasource. This way,
users always have access to their customizations--users also do not have to
worry about losing customizations when they perform a Client Install. DAS
enables users to share report customizations through a fast export/import
process.
EnterpriseOne Full Client
Once DAS is installed to the Deployment Server, DAS becomes
available to your EnterpriseOne® end-users. If you have network management
software such as ZenWorks® or Tivoli®, you can deploy the DAS.msi package to
each target client.
If you do not have network management software, each
EnterpriseOne® Workstation must install DAS once. From then on, these
workstations will automatically receive updates from the Deployment Server.
Users may run DAS from the desktop or by running the appropriate shortcut from
EnterpriseOne®. Users sign into DAS with their EnterpriseOne login and password.
Data Access Studio Web Server
One of the best deployment options, the DAS Web
server lets you deploy DAS to your enterprise via the Web. Web clients
just need a browser and the .net framework (which is typically already
installed with windows). Administration is a breeze because you only have
to maintain the DAS Web Server (applying packages or software patches).
The DAS Web Server has other architectural
advantages. First, the user interface is identical to a Full client
interface. This means no re-training. Next, DAS utilizes the memory
and processing power of the client machine. This means that a large query
will not bog down your web server. The hit of the large row set will be
taken by the client machine that issued the query. This is a great
advantage over the architecture of the JDE DataBrowser which consumes
server-only resources. As many E8.11 customers have discovered at large
query with JDE DataBrowser can have adverse affects on the JDE Web Server.
The DAS architecture DOES NOT have this issue. You can submit DAS queries
with confidence!
Citrix®
If you have a Citrix® Server or a Citrix® farm, you install
DAS to the Citrix® server in the same manner as a EnterpriseOne Workstation (described
above). Users then sign on to EnterpriseOne® and run DAS from the fastpath.

Workstation
You can also install Data Access
Studio to a Windows workstation to access World data
World
Data Access Studio access the
World data (using the World business unit security, read-only security, and
application-level security.)
During the initial install, Data
Access Studio creates one file on your World system: FDASPROP in the same
library as your F0094. The FDASPROP is where Data Access Studio stores all
layouts and report formats (never the data returned from queries -- only the
formatting of the data.)
With this architecture, you do not
have to worry about maintaining an additional database. Furthermore, the
FDASPROP will be automatically a part of your existing AS400 backups.
